Fourteen Fun-filled Years

We are celebrating the 14th year of the Predator Triathlon Club Loughrea Triathlon Festival in 2021.

HISTORY OF THE CLUB

The club was established in Athenry in 2005 with the objective of giving an outlet for people to train and improve their fitness and mental wellbeing through the medium of triathlon thus developing a base to develop the sport in East Galway.

Predator ran its first race as a Duathlon in Athenry. Later in Loughrea in what is its summer base, it ran its first Loughrea Triathlon two day event which included Sprint, Olympic, and Women’s Try a Try distances. It developed into a regional Premier Sprint event with 332 entries sponsored by Run Ireland.

From 2006 to 2008 the senior membership was expanded and developed in north Galway. Various Duathlon events were held and the Loughrea Triathlon became a one day event. We developed coaches in the club and TO officials for Triathlon Ireland, and expanded training sessions and benefits for members.

From 2008 to 2010 the Junior Predator Club was established with four members with the goal of providing an outlet for juniors to train and develop as individuals in the fun medium of triathlon. The club ran the first junior events at Loughrea in 2008 which were open to competitors from the 4 provinces.

Predator Triathlon Club was awarded the Junior National Championships in Loughrea in 2011.

This year saw the biggest Sprint entry to date with over 600 competitors in the event.

A great honour to be awarded a National Series event – one of the most successful events in the 2013 calendar.
